SDSU says nursing majors commonly follow its own GE pattern rather than Cal-GETC or CSU GE certification, and three of the eight prerequisites are GE courses.
Three semesters to reach MCRBIO 1
STAT C1000, then CHEM 19, then MCRBIO 1 is the longest chain: three semesters minimum. CHEM 19 needs STAT C1000 with MATH 54C, or MATH 31 or MATH 50, so start statistics or math in your first term.

Biology needs a B-minus, not a C
SDSU requires a B- or better in every biology course, so MCRBIO 1, ANATMY 1 and PHYS 3 each need at least a B-. CHEM 19 and STAT C1000 need a C or better.
STAT C1000 is SMC's statistics match
SDSU accepts one of three statistics courses: STAT 250, BIOL 215 or PSY 280. SMC matches only STAT 250, with STAT C1000. It opens the longest chain on this route, so it fits your first semester while the science sequence gets going.
Order the sciences by prerequisite
ANATMY 1 requires ENGL C1000, and CHEM 19 requires MATH 31 or MATH 50. PHYS 3 opens after CHEM 19 or ANATMY 1, and MCRBIO 1 after CHEM 19 or PHYS 3, among other options. Start with ENGL C1000, STAT C1000 and your math.

What classes do I need at SMC for SDSU nursing?
CHEM 19 for chemistry, MCRBIO 1 for microbiology, ANATMY 1 for anatomy, PHYS 3 for physiology and STAT C1000 for statistics. SDSU counts eight prerequisites in all; the other three are GE courses in oral communication, written communication and critical thinking, each with a C or better.
Does SMC MCRBIO 1 count for SDSU BIOL 211?
Yes. ASSIST lists MCRBIO 1, Fundamentals of Microbiology, for SDSU's BIOL 211 and BIOL 211L together, so one SMC course covers both lecture and lab. It needs CHEM 19, PHYS 3 or another listed science course first, and SDSU wants a B- or better in it.
When do SDSU nursing prerequisites have to be done?
All eight must be finished by the end of fall 2026, and none can be in progress in spring 2027. You also need a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a TEAS score of at least 80%. Applicants are then ranked on the School of Nursing's 80-point system.
What doesn't SMC cover for SDSU nursing?
NURS 202, NURS 206, NURS 208, NURS 219 and NURS 221 have no SMC match, so you'd take them at SDSU. Every science and statistics prerequisite is covered, and SDSU's nursing department says it also accepts other microbiology, anatomy, physiology and chemistry courses as substitutions.
