UCLA Computer Science: full GE notes
UCLA's engineering school doesn't require or recommend IGETC or Cal-GETC for Computer Science, and a partial certification isn't accepted.
Calculus prep runs five semesters deep
OCC's math sequence starts at MATH A070 and moves through MATH A170, MATH A180 and MATH A185 before MATH A280, which covers both MATH 32A and MATH 32B. Start this chain your first term.
OCC runs semesters, UCLA runs quarters
Single OCC classes often stand in for more than one UCLA quarter course. MATH A280 alone covers MATH 32A and MATH 32B, and PHYS A185, PHYS A280 and PHYS A285 replace UCLA's five-course physics series.

One math course clears two requirements
OCC's MATH A285, or the honors MATH A285H, satisfies both MATH 33A and MATH 33B in a single semester, since it combines linear algebra with differential equations. One class covers two of UCLA's quarter courses.
Either computer architecture course counts
ASSIST accepts CS A216 or CS A242 for COM SCI 33, so you only need to complete one of OCC's two options. Pick whichever fits your schedule; both routes satisfy the same UCLA requirement.
Discrete math has two OCC options
MATH 61 accepts MATH A230 or CS A262. MATH A230 needs MATH A185 or MATH A185H first; CS A262 needs one of CS A100, CS A122, CS A131, CS A150 or CS A170.

What classes should I take at OCC for UCLA computer science?
Take CS A150, CS A250, CS A200, CS A216 or CS A242, MATH A180, MATH A185, MATH A280, MATH A285, MATH A230 or CS A262, PHYS A185, PHYS A280 and PHYS A285, plus ENGL C1000 or ESL A100. Finish everything by spring before transfer, all for a letter grade.
Which UCLA computer science courses have no OCC match?
The software construction lab, COM SCI 35L, and logic design (COM SCI M51A or EC ENGR M16). ASSIST lists no OCC course for either. Neither is on the list UCLA wants finished by spring before transfer, so you complete both at UCLA.
How hard is it to get into UCLA computer science?
Very hard. UCLA admitted 5% of all transfer applicants to Computer Science in 2025, across every community college. Samueli requires at least a 3.4 transferable GPA and does not consider you for an alternate major if you're turned down.
Does OCC CS A150 transfer to UCLA?
Yes. CS A150 is OCC's match for COM SCI 31, the first course in UCLA's programming sequence. UCLA prefers C++ for this requirement, and ASSIST notes that C and Java courses are also accepted.
