Three semesters for the full calculus sequence

MATH 192 leads to MATH 193, then MATH 292: three semesters minimum for all of UCSD's calculus prep. Begin MATH 192 your first term to stay on pace.

DVC semesters map onto UCSD quarters

UCSD teaches calculus and accounting across quarters, while DVC teaches the same content in three or four semesters. Each DVC course still covers one full UCSD course, term for term.

    Watch Out

Common Mistakes for This Transfer Path

Three semesters clears the whole calculus chain

MATH 192, MATH 193 and MATH 292 run in a straight line to cover UCSD's full MATH 20A-B-C sequence. UCSD requires the first two before you enroll and strongly advises finishing MATH 292 as well.

BUSAC, not ACCT, is the accounting prefix

DVC's accounting sequence for MGT 4 and MGT 5 is listed under BUSAC, not ACCT. BUSAC 187 needs BUSAC 186 first, so start financial accounting before managerial.

Only one economics course is required

UCSD wants ECON 221 or ECON 220, whichever matches microeconomics or macroeconomics. DVC offers both, but the major only screens on one of the two.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

What classes should I take at DVC for UCSD business economics?

MATH 192, MATH 193 and MATH 292 for calculus, either ECON 221 or ECON 220 for economics, and BUSAC 186 with BUSAC 187 for accounting. Each needs a C- or better.

What doesn't DVC cover for UCSD business economics?

ASSIST lists no DVC course for ECON 5, MGT 16 or MGT 71. Those three finish at UCSD after you transfer; none of them factors into admission screening.

What's the UCSD business economics admit rate?

54% of 2025 transfer applicants to the major were admitted, counting all applicants, not DVC specifically. Admission depends on finishing the required prep courses with a 2.3 GPA across them.

Is DVC on the quarter or semester calendar?

DVC runs semesters while UCSD runs quarters. Each DVC semester course lines up one-to-one with a UCSD quarter course in this agreement, so the course count doesn't change.
