Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionThis course is an introduction to forest ecological and biological processes and forest management. Students will learn through discussion of silviculture, policy, operations, forest products, and management decision making processes. Students will learn about basic techniques for measuring, mapping, and analyzing forests using GIS applications and other tools. Understanding forest ecosystem components, such as soil, water, insect infestations, uncontrolled fire, and human activity will be emphasized throughout the course. Priority will be placed on understanding both traditional use of forest resources and emerging, multiple-use goals utilizing best practices. Grades are P/NP options.
