    Description
    Prerequisite: ISTU 040 or Corequisite: ISTU 040. Advisory: ENGL 905, ENGL 905X. This course is designed to train students to be peer writing tutors and to develop skills that are useful in other professional, personal, and academic settings as well. Topics include communication skills, tutoring at all stages of the writing process, study skills, addressing the needs of specific student populations and various learner types, essay exam strategies, problem-solving skills, high and low order revision priorities, identifying and addressing grammar patterns, research strategies, proper documentation, and respecting a writer’s authentic voice. Students who successfully complete the course can apply to be hired as peer writing tutors; however, course completion does not guarantee employment.
