    Description
In this course, students learn and apply foundational rhetorical theories and techniques of public speaking in a multicultural democratic society. Students discover, develop, and critically analyze ideas in public discourse through research, reasoning, organization, composition, delivery to a live audience, and evaluation of various types of speeches, including informative and persuasive speeches. This is an honors course. Students are invited to explore ethical public speaking and apply this knowledge to their personal and professional lives. This course offers students the knowledge, tools, and confidence necessary to elevate their voices in an inclusive and welcoming environment that values diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives. Introduction to Public Speaking - Honors uses the pedagogical methods common to all honors courses: writing-intensive, collaborative, and experiential instruction. As an honors course, there is a focus on analytical writing and exploring course content through reading primary source research. This course used to be COMM 001H.
