Transfers ToUC and CSUCal-GETC Area 3B · IGETC Area 3B · CSU GE Area C2DescriptionThis course acquaints students with the work of queer (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or gender non-conforming) writers, historical and contemporary, who have made important contributions to literature. Queer issues and relationships (both overt and in subtext) are examined in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students read works by Whitman, Baldwin, Walker, Kushner, and Highsmith among others. In addition, students become familiar with queer theory CREDIT COURSE LISTINGS & DESCRIPTIONS and use the work of writers such as Foucault, Butler, and Rich to analyze texts and write critical essays that analyze recurrent themes in this literature.
