    UC/CSU Through this course, students will explore diversity, complexity, and dynamism of social life in the region known as the Middle East. From the holistic and comparative nature of anthropological study, the course offers students a broad survey of peoples living in the region. Included in this study are a variety of interconnected topics that have been important in the anthropological literature on the region. The diverse social forms of nomads, tribes, villages, and cities and the associated social and economic intricacies will be examined. Also explored will be the systems of values, norms, and religious beliefs as part of social processes. The region will be defined in both a geographic and cultural framework.
