    Introduction to the field of biotechnology: History and current medical and industrial products, government oversight, ethical issues; introduction to cell and molecular biology, standard laboratory equipment, techniques and practices, metrology, laboratory mathematics, media and buffer preparation, cloning, microbiological techniques, gel electrophoresis, chromatography, PCR, bioinformatics, safety, hazardous waste disposal and good laboratory practices.
