Transfers ToCSUCSU GE Area C2DescriptionThis course introduces one or more popular literary genres, such as mystery/crime, horror, science fiction, fantasy, and romance, through representative full-length works and selected short fiction from diverse cultures. Students analyze major authors and themes, trace the development of genres over time, and apply critical approaches to examine how historical, social, economic, psychological, philosophical, and aesthetic contexts shape genre fiction. The course also compares distinctive features of these genres and methods for analyzing literature across genres.
