Topics will include the literature of Puritanism, reason and revolution, transcendentalism, romanticism, the Civil War and its related subjects, abolition and slavery. Multicultural contributions to early American texts include those of the primary groups--Native American, African American, Hispanic American writers--and commentators on the young republic.
