- Covers professional level instruction in Big Band jazz ensemble performance including history, theory, aesthetics, and contemporary criticism of jazz. Emphasizes performance techniques and stylistic interpretation in twentieth-century swing styles, advanced jazz rock, intermediate and advanced bossa nova, nonstandard time signature, and avant-garde or "free" playing styles.
