This course will present state and national standards, ethics, protocols, skill sets, vocabulary, and linguistic requirements for various interpreting environments. SPAN 101 3.0 Unit Cross Age Teaching in Spanish Prrequisite**: SPAN 002 This class gives students the opportunity to teach basic Spanish weekly in two local elementary schools. Students will participate in weekly seminars and explore how children learn and develop understanding in Spanish. Working with a peer partner or partners, students will prepare lesson plans and develop curriculum. Students will work in elementary school classes in Solano County to provide language instruction based on the developed lesson plans. The Spanish (Castilian) language has been a key instrument of imperialism. We will explore accompanying issues of power as they relate to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and language. SPAN 175 1.0 Unit Spanish/English Communication Experience Seminar An advanced examination of bilingual communication skills in the workplace. Exercises in problem-solving with case studies, video observations, and specific examples. Concurrent enrollment in a 1-unit OCED 091 course required in an approved community service setting.
