Selected short cultural readings, grammatical concepts, and specific thematic vocabulary may be reviewed briefly to generate and facilitate oral communication. However, the emphasis of this course primarily is on building oral proficiency within authentic cultural contexts at the intermediate level. The Spanish (Castilian) language has been a key instrument of imperialism. We will explore accompanying issues of power as they relate to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and language.
