    years of high school Spanish with a minimum grade of C General Education: SCC: Area 3; Cal-GETC: Area 3B, Language other than English (LOTE) Following SPAN 001, students continue to explore the fundamentals of Spanish (listening, speaking, reading, writing and culture) with increased emphasis on writing and continued stress on language production, pronunciation, grammar, syntax, acquisition of a practical vocabulary through authentic language in cultural contexts. The Spanish (Castilian) language has been a key instrument of imperialism. We will explore accompanying issues of power as they relate to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and language. NOTE: Not open to students who have completed SPAN 002S; SPAN 033 and/or 034; or SPAN 063M and/or 064M.
