    Description
General Education: SCC: Area 3; Cal-GETC: Language other than English (LOTE) Introduces the fundamental elements of the language (listening, speaking, reading, writing and culture) with emphasis on language production, grammar, syntax, acquisition of a practical vocabulary, and exposure to Spanish-speaking cultures. The Spanish (Castilian) language has been a key instrument of imperialism. We will explore accompanying issues of power as they relate to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and language. NOTE: Not open for credit to students who have had two or more years of high school Spanish with a minimum grade of B within the last three years or to students who have completed SPAN 001S; or SPAN 031 and/or 032; or SPAN 061M and/or 062M.
