This interdisciplinary course of study emphasizes the development of logical, analytical and communication skills and explores preparatory coursework in a variety of majors, such as Philosophy, Economics, Political Science, Communication Studies, History, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Students who successfully complete the AA-T in Law, Public Policy, and Society earn specific guarantees for transfer to the CSU system: admission to a CSU with junior status and priority admission to a local CSU campus and to a range of programs or majors. Some of these majors include, but are not limited to, American Studies, Communications, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Global Intelligence and National Security, International Relations, Philosophy, Political Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences (Political Economy Concentration). Students transferring to a CSU campus will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor's degree. To earn the Associate in Arts in Law, Public Policy, and Society for Transfer, students must: 1. Complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: a. The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) b. A minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district 2. Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 3. Complete all courses within the major with a minimum grade of C or P if taken on a Pass/No Pass basis Program Outcomes Students who complete the Associate in Arts in Political Science for Transfer will be able to: 1. Analyze social science concepts and theories 2. Recognize, evaluate, and respond to evidence-based arguments 3. Demonstrate how a range of human experiences influences decision-making and behavior. 4. Identify and explain the ideas and institutions that make up the American political system, including the legal field, to describe the evolution of civil liberties and rights in the United States and apply this knowledge to current events and legal issues, and to recognize the role of public opinion, interest groups, ethics and political parties regarding the electoral process, law, and public policy in society. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of the field of law and the various classifications of the law, including being able to distinguish among the various parts of a contract. 6. Communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively in written and oral forms. 7. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of public policy. 8. Evaluate arguments using evidence-based reasoning. 9. This interplay of individual citizens, public leaders, elections, and world events make political inquiry relevant today. The program provides a broad base for the analysis of how government resolves social conflict within the United States and around the world. The Associate in Arts in Political Science for Transfer is fully transferable to the CSU. Students who meet the CSU's minimum eligibility requirements are guaranteed priority admission to a CSU campus, though not necessarily to a particular campus or major. With this degree you will be required to take no more than 60 semester or 90 quarter units after transfer to complete a bachelor's degree if you transfer into a program at the CSU that's similar to the Associate in Arts in Political Science for Transfer.
