Covers technical and aesthetic aspects of portraiture, including lighting and framing, but also historical and contemporary portrait photography. Attention will be paid to issues of racism, representation, and the power structures that exist in both past and current practice of portrait photography. Digital SLR or comparable camera required. The department has a limited number of cameras to loan for those that cannot provide their own. Field trips may be required, but students will be offered comparable options if unable to attend.
