This course provides an overview of the perinatal period, focusing on the physiological, psychological, and emotional needs of both the mother and infant. Students will learn essential nursing skills for assessing, planning, and delivering safe and effective care during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. Emphasizing a patient-centered approach, the course includes the development of communication skills and critical thinking to support decision-making in various maternal and newborn health situations. Students will explore the role of the nurse in promoting wellness, preventing complications, and providing compassionate, culturally sensitive care. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to care for childbearing families in a variety of healthcare settings, using evidence-based practices to support optimal outcomes for both mothers and newborns. Internet and PC computer access with chrome web browser required in order to utilizes online NCLEX test preparation software, skills videos and to complete course materials utilizing word, excel and PDF documents. NURS - Nursing NURS 072S 1.0 Unit Nursing Skills Lab II Previously learned psychomotor skills will be expanded and new skills added for more advanced care of patients in the clinical setting. As the skills are learned, students will incorporate the concepts of communication, teamwork/ collaboration, evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, clinical judgement and the nursing process.
