GPS provides possible course pathways to reach the destination of program completion Nursing Registered Nursing Associate in Science Degree Program Description The Registered Nursing Program at Solano Community College is a 2-year Associate Degree Program fully approved by the CA Board of Registered Nursing and is subject to its regulations regarding the education and training of nurses. Successful completion of the program qualifies the student to apply to the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse. The practice of nursing requires knowledge of the biological, behavioral, and physical sciences, as well as knowledge of, and the ability to speak, to read, and to write the English language proficiently. This program follows the policy of non-discrimination set forth by the Governing Board of Solano Community College. The Associate in Science Degree is awarded upon successful completion of the major and general education requirements. All courses in the major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis. Program Outcomes Students who complete the Registered Nursing Associate Degree will be able to: 1. Synthesize principles of the nursing process and critical thinking- utilizing memory and recall- to assist individuals, families and communities to achieve positive adaptation to change in health or a peaceful death. 2. Integrate technology and evidence-based concepts of nursing practice across the health care continuum to ensure quality patient centered care. 3. Educate patients, families, and communities in health promotion behaviors that increase health and wellness and decrease disease and illness in populations and communities Retention in Program: 1.Students are required to undergo criminal background checks and drug screens. The School of Health Sciences may be unable to place students in a clinical setting if they have a positive criminal background check or drug screen; therefore, the student may be dropped from the nursing program. 2.If a student's conduct poses potential harm to the well-being of clients or is disruptive to the classroom or lab environment, the student may be dropped from the nursing program. 3.If a student's physical or emotional health appears to be such that they cannot meet the objectives of the program in nursing, the student may be asked to drop the nursing program. 4. In order to remain in the program and to graduate, the student must maintain a minimum grade of C in the theory and the clinical portions of the nursing program. The student must maintain a median grade of 75% or higher for each course. 5.Maintain current CPR, TB screening, clear criminal background check and drug screen. In accordance with state law, the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) may deny licensure to an individual for crimes substantially related to the practice of nursing. Upon acceptance to the nursing program, any student who has had a conviction related to sex crimes, drug crimes (including DUI) and crimes of violence may need to contact the BRN regarding his/her status. A Composite Score of 73% or greater. Selection is based on a randomized lottery selection process. Returning qualified applicants will have their name included into the appropriate pool for each time they apply to SCC's Registered Nursing program for three (3) consecutive years. If an applicant who has not been selected after 3 years applies a fourth time, they will automatically be offered a spot, as long as they still meet the requirements for entry. ***Only applicants who meet and complete the application criteria will be considered for admission.*** Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
