    Description
    An analysis of the legal framework of employer-employee relations including complying with laws, regulations, and policies, and educating stakeholders to identify, mitigate, and respond to organizational risk. The course addresses employment law topics including the hiring process, employment-at-will, wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, harassment in the workplace, leaves of absence, employee privacy issues, wage and hour issues, workers compensation, union organizing, and collective bargaining. The course will examine emerging issues in human resource management as related to equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and inclusion. MGMT 196 Human Resource Development 3.0 Units An examination of employee training and human resource development in various organizations. Students will learn to assess the needs of the organization and understand the techniques and methods for designing and delivering fair and equitable training programs to provide employees with the tools, skills, and knowledge to align with current and future organizational goals. Topics include the development, administration, and evaluation of training programs; employee development; career development; and organizational change. Issues in employee development, including assessment of employee competencies, opportunities for learning and growth, and the roles of managers in employee development, are explored. This course covers the entire field of Human Resource Development (HRD), from orientation and skills training to career development and organizational development. In addition to being theory- and research- based, it is also practical- and experience-based, designed for students who wish to become HRD professionals or managers at all levels. Business - Marketing Marketing Certificate of Achievement and Associate in Science Program Description Marketing involves a variety of activities including selection of target customer, product development, promotion, pricing and distribution. It applies equally to services, ideas, non-profit organizations, and the individual. The Certificate of Achievement can be obtained by completing the 30-unit major. The Associate in Science can be obtained by completing the 30-unit major, General Education, and electives as needed to complete a minimum of 60 units. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis. Program Outcomes Students who complete the Marketing Certificate of Achievement/Associate in Science will be able to: 1. Apply marketing research principles to a company's product or service. 2. Apply advertising principles to promote a firm's image and product/service offering. 3. Develop a marketing plan for a business using the fundamental elements of the marketing mix.
