    General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development An individualized approach to fitness with a focus on the individual's personal responsibility for his/her fitness and health throughout life. The study of the physiological changes one undergoes as a result of physical conditioning forms the basis for the development of a lifetime fitness plan. KINE 011A Body Conditioning - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A complete fitness program that includes muscle strength and endurance training, cardio-respiratory endurance training, flexibility training, and body composition analysis. Students will learn to design their own exercise programs to achieve their personal fitness goals. KINE 011B Body Conditioning - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A complete fitness program that includes muscle strength and endurance training, cardio-respiratory endurance training, flexibility training, and body composition analysis. Students will build on their knowledge and fitness levels achieved in the beginning class. KINE 011X Cardio Conditioning - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development An introduction to cardiovascular activities utilizing treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, stair masters, and body movements without the use of a machine. Students will learn the important factor of pace, how to improve endurance, and how to design a cardiovascular workout routine to achieve their own personal fitness goals. UC limitation of credit: Maximum 4 elective units combined of Activity courses KINE - Kinesiology KINE 011Y Cardio Conditioning - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Intermediate cardio conditioning course for students wanting increased intensity of cardio workouts. Students may use indoor cardio equipment including treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, and stair masters. Additionally, jogging/running, bicycling, and street elliptical machines may be used. Students will learn the important factor of pace, heart rate training, and cardio fitness. Students will design their own cardiovascular workout (in consultation with instructor) to achieve their personal fitness goals. KINE 012A Weight Training Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A comprehensive weight training course for men and women with a focus on strength development and muscle hypertrophy. Resistive exercises via free weights and fixed weights are used for the development of every major muscle group. Students will learn to design their own strength training programs to achieve their personal fitness goals. KINE 012B Weight Training - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A comprehensive weight training course for men and women that will build on strength development and muscle hypertrophy developed in the beginning course. Resistive exercises via free weights and fixed weights are used for the development of every major muscle group. Special emphasis will be directed at helping individuals define and concentrate on personalized fitness goals. KINE 012X Circuit Training - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A fast-paced circuit where students participate in a balanced strength training program that includes upper body, lower body, and core exercises using free weights, machine weights, resistance bands, and their own body weight. Students will learn to design their own exercise programs to achieve their personal fitness goals. KINE 012Y Circuit Training - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development An intermediate exercise circuit course where students participate in a balanced strength and conditioning training program that provides upper body, lower body, and core exercises using free weights, machine weights, resistance bands, and individual's body weight. Students will learn to design their own exercise programs to achieve their personal fitness goals. KINE 013A 1.0 Unit Resistance Band Training - Beginning General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development An activity fitness course that utilizes resistance band techniques that can increase strength, flexibility, endurance and lean body composition. Resistance band exercises can help to improve and develop functionality and agility through strengthening weak muscles as well as core muscles. Students will learn to safely and effectively execute flexibility exercises and balancing exercises as well as strengthening exercises for all the major muscle groups. Skill exams and written exams serve to evaluate student achievement. Students will learn to design their own exercise programs to achieve their personal fitness goals. UC limitation of credit: Maximum 4 elective units combined of Activity courses KINE 021A Archery - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Fundamental techniques of archery, terminology, accessories, and history of the sport. Practice and class competitions are provided to enhance skill development. KINE 021B Archery - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Improve archery skills and introduce field archery and dynamic (moving) target shooting. Students will learn to perform at international and Olympic distances. KINE 023X Tennis - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two players each. This course includes the fundamental techniques of tennis: forehand, backhand, basic serve, and volley. Terminology, rules, and history are included. Practice, skill drills, and class competition in both singles and doubles are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy. KINE 023Y Tennis - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Tennis is a racket sport, this course will cover Intermediate techniques of tennis: overhead shot, drop shot, volley, serves, and offensive and defensive lobs. Strategy for competitive play is emphasized. The fundamental techniques of tennis: forehand, backhand, basic serve, and volley. Terminology, rules, and history are included. Practice, skill drills, and class competition in both singles and doubles are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy. KINE 023Z Tennis - Advanced 1.0 Unit experience high school team tennis and/or club tennis tournament experience General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development This Tennis course will provide advanced instruction in the techniques, tactics and strategies associated with competitive tennis. The fundamental techniques of tennis: forehand, backhand, basic serve, and volley. Terminology, rules, and history are included. Practice, skill drills, and class competition in both singles and doubles are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy. Special emphasis placed on drills and competitive play situations. KINE 024A Pickleball 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development This course will cover the beginning skills of pickleball. Emphasis on fundamental strokes, rules, terminology, and etiquette. Pickleball is a game played on a badminton sized court, indoors or outdoors. Emphasizes hand-eye coordination and active play in a popular worldwide game. KINE 030A 1.0 Unit Soccer - Indoor/Outdoor - Beginning General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Instruction and practice in the basic technical and tactical fundamentals of soccer. Includes game rules, terminology, history, participation, practice, and competition drills, fundamental soccer skills, conditioning, principles of play, and appropriate sportsmanship. Class competitions are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy. UC limitation of credit: Maximum 4 elective units combined of Activity courses KINE 030B Soccer - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Instruction and practice in the intermediate technical and tactical skills of soccer. Through team competition, emphasis is placed upon offensive and defensive tactics and strategies. Develop knowledge and understanding of the current general soccer rules, terminology, history, participation, practice, competition drills, conditioning, principles of play, and appropriate sportsmanship. Class competitions are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy. KINE 032A Baseball - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Covers the fundamental skills of baseball: throwing, catching, fielding, catching fly balls, hitting, bunting, base running, sliding, and playing defensive positions. Offensive and defensive drills practiced in preparation for controlled competition in class. History, rules, and terminology are included. KINE 032X Softball - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Covers the fundamental techniques of softball, including terminology, rules and history. Practice, skill drills, and class competitions are provided to enhance skill development and game strategy Students must provide their own glove. KINE 037A Volleyball - Beginning 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development A comprehensive course that covers the basic volleyball skills: serve, pass, set attack, and block. Skill development is emphasized. This course presents information on team play, rules, history, and basic game strategy. Learn new drills and skills to improve your game. KINE 037B Volleyball - Intermediate 1.0 Unit General Education: SCC: Local District Requirement - Health, Lifelong Learning, and Self Development Covers fundamental volleyball skills at an intermediate level: serve, pass, set, attack, and block. The course focuses on offensive and defensive tactics and strategies in preparation for high-level competitive play. A comprehensive physical conditioning program is included to prepare the player for the rigors of volleyball activity. Learn new drills and skills to improve your game.
