Identification and acquisition of GIS data. Assessment of vector and raster systems, scale, resolution, map projection, coordinate systems, georeferencing and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Spatial analysis and modeling with GIS. Same course as GEOL 010. Not open to students who have completed GEOL 010. Field trips may be required. Geology Department DEGREES The Geology Department introduces students to the methods of science as well as the fundamentals of geology. Geology is the study of Earth � its interior and its exterior surface, the rocks and other materials that are around us and the processes (i.e., water flow, changes over time) that have resulted in the formation of those materials. Courses focus on physical geology, earth sciences, geology of California and geographic information systems. The courses do not lead to a certificate, degree or transfer agreement in themselves. However, these courses may apply to other programs and may also be used toward lower division general education.
