    Description
    General Education: SCC: Area 3; Cal-GETC: Area 3B, Language other than English (LOTE) A continuation of FREN 002. This course teaches culture and facilitates language acquisition through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will continue to interact with authentic language in context and express personal meaning, using different strategies and techniques that go beyond casual conversations, in order to express opinions, make suggestions on familiar topics, discuss some abstract issues, and make plans. Students will demonstrate the ability to think critically by analyzing linguistic structures and reflecting on and making cross-cultural comparisons. Students will demonstrate an increased awareness of cultural norms, values, and culturally relevant appropriate customs and events. This course will be taught in French. "The French language has been a key instrument of imperialism. We will explore accompanying issues of power as they relate to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and language."
