    This course offers informal explorations of personalities, works, and major themes in symphonic and chamber music, opera, modern drama, Chapter 4: Courses & Competencies__________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________2025-2026 Shasta College Catalog 171 American musicals, or films. This course is intended for older adults and community members as well as students enrolled in for-credit courses. It is designed to promote increased personal appreciation and enjoyment of these forms of artistic expression and broaden students' understanding of culture, geography, history, and languages. I INDEPENDENT STUDY (IS) IS 99/199 INDEPENDENT STUDY � 0.5-3 Units Note: Any combination of these courses may be repeated three times for a total of four enrollments or a maximum of six independent study units. Class Hours: 27 hours for each � unit Independent study provides a forum for advanced work in a given field of study. A student may contract with a full-time instructor to do independent study in a specific subject area in which he/she has exhausted the regular curricular offerings. For transfer level courses, the student must have a declared major or already possess a degree and have completed a minimum of 12 transfer units at Shasta College.
