Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course will introduce students to various aspects of environmental laws, policies, and agencies responsible for the management and regulation of our natural resources. Topics of the course will include the origins and importance of environmental law, legal principles, property rights, international, federal, state, and local environmental legislation, and regulatory authorities. The course will include discussions on the Chapter 4: Courses & Competencies__________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________2025-2026 Shasta College Catalog 105 Legislative and Regulatory history and current implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Students will gain an understanding of the interactions between federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and how they pertain to environmental compliance and protection, and enforcement for illegal activities. Examples of legislation and regulations to be covered will include aspects of the Federal Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), California Water Code, Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), waste management laws, and other pertinent federal, state, and local environmental laws. This course may be offered in a distance education format. (CSU/UC transferable)
