The main topics include the structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids; the catalysis, kinetics and regulation of enzymes; and the reactions of glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, electron transport/oxidative phosphorylation, and gluconeogenesis. The laboratory section of the course provides an introduction to biochemistry lab procedures including titration, peptide analysis, spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, column chromatography, gel-electrophoresis, the kinetic analysis of enzyme-catalyzed reactions, and internet based informatics tools.
