- This course surveys the art of the African continent from beginnings to contemporary times, the African diaspora, including Brazil, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Additionally, the arts of Oceania and Indigenous America are surveyed, beginnings to present times. Emphasis is on the intersection of styles, context and meaning with attention to themes of power, post-colonialism, globalization, and identity.
