Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course involves the study of basic concepts of administrative law and procedure in local, state, and federal agencies, especially with regard to the paralegal's role in the administrative process. Statutory law, case law, and administrative rules will be utilized to develop an understanding of the role and authority of administrative agencies in a select variety of fields, such as social security and workers' compensation. Topics include formal and informal advocacy techniques, including representing clients before administrative bodies. Substantive topics include administrative delegation of power, public records acts, rulemaking, agency discretionary powers, remedies, and judicial review. Procedural topics include agency operation, adjudication, hearing preparation, and administrative and judicial appeals.
