Transfers ToUC and CSUCal-GETC Area 4 · IGETC Area 4 · CSU GE Area DDescriptionThis course introduces students to the history, context, methodology, and theory related to the development of the Ethnic Studies discipline through an interdisciplinary and comparative analysis of the racial, ethnic, cultural, economic, social, educational, and political issues that impact Native American, Black/African American, Chicana/o, Latina/o, and Asian American people in the United States. The course interrogates the intersections of identity, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and mental health as they relate to the experiences of Native American, Black/African American, Chicana/o, Latina/o, and Asian American people. The course develops students' agency, self-determination and group affirmation through engagement in local community research and oral history projects, through involvement with community groups and regional organization events and activities, and through participation in current social movements to build a just and equitable society.
