    Surveys world literature from the 1600s to the present including but not necessarily limited to the masterpieces of the Western tradition. Concentrates on recurring themes, such as a person's relationship to God and nature, individual and social morality, liberty and responsibility, social and economic justice, and the search for a meaningful existence. Credit may only be earned in one of: ENG 229W, ENG 229HW, LIT 229W, or LIT 229HW. (45-0)
