    Description
This introductory level honors course develops an appreciation and understanding of Chicanx/Latinx art and culture through exploration of ancestral heritage, historical experiences and influences, symbols, theories, painting principles, techniques, practices, philosophies, artists, and significant works of art and related literature. Engagement with the campus or broader community through theory and studio work reinforces understanding of Chicanx/Latinx historic/cultural styles. As an arts and humanities course, the Chicanx/Latinx artistic medium is both the focus of study and the means to examine the broader human condition. The course is taught in English (with some code-switching in Spanish). Since ART 9 and ART 9H are equivalent courses, credit may be awarded for either ART 9 or ART 9H but not both.
