    This course is an overview of supervision and control of inmates in local, state, and federal correctional institutions. The issues of supervision and control in a continuum from institutional daily living through crisis situations are introduced and discussed. The course emphasizes the role played by the offender and the correctional worker. Topics include inmate subculture, violence, effects of crowding on inmates and staff, and coping techniques for correctional officers in a hostile prison environment. The causes and effects of abusive tactics are discussed.
