Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course is an overview of the history, struggles, and practices that Native American communities experienced and implemented to preserve and revitalize their Indigenous languages. Emphasis is placed on the spiritually vital role Indian languages play in Indian communities and the cultural harm Indian communities suffer from the reduction or loss of their Indigenous language. Topics include federal policies aimed at suppressing Indian Nations as well as Native American-initiated language preservation and revitalization strategies and programs. This course is intended for students majoring in Native American Studies and all those interested in exploring the history and experiences of Native Americans.
