    Description
This course provides an interdisciplinary introduction to Federal Indian Law and Indigenous political power, tracing its development from foundational U.S. legal doctrines to contemporary struggles for tribal sovereignty and self-determination. Students will examine key federal case law, treaties, legislation, and policy shifts alongside Indigenous theories of governance, land, and identity. Emphasis is placed on critical analysis of legal and social systems, settler colonialism, and the lived experiences of Native nations. The course engages legal, political, and cultural perspectives to explore how Federal Indian Law shapes ongoing Indigenous resistance and self-governance. This course is intended for students interested in the field of American Indian Studies or exploring the history and experiences of Native Americans.
