Topics include summary reviews of fire department operations; personal protective equipment (PPE); building construction; ropes and knots; hand and power tools; fire behavior; water and hose systems; property conservation and overhaul; strategy and procedures for structure and vehicle fires; and firefighter safety and survival. Students also develop hands-on skills in combating structure fires using a live-fire simulator. This course meets the requirements for Fire Control 3 Certification and also prepares students to take the Firefighter I (2019) Written and Skills Exam. The exam is approximately one week in duration and covers the structure, wildland, and hazmat requirements needed to earn the Firefighter I Certification.
