Students learn to avoid situations that could cause them to become lost, trapped, or injured at a fire scene. Topics include firefighter survival terminology, survival attitude, situational awareness, and problem-solving techniques intended to provide self-reliance in an emergency. Course instruction includes the use of case studies to analyze common factors in line-of-duty deaths (LODDs). This course is a requirement for Firefighter I Certification.
