Students are introduced to the Advanced Life Support (ALS) system, equipment, and procedures with an emphasis on the protocols and resources used in San Diego County. Topics include the ALS system; legal issues; San Diego County resources; communications; ambulance operations; special patient populations; and the employment of ALS skills and procedures in patient assessment, stabilization, pre-hospital care, and transportation. Students also conduct two 12-hour ride-alongs in a paramedic ambulance.
