Major topics include the role of law enforcement in society; identifying and classifying crimes; laws of arrest; evidence; report writing; vehicle operations; traffic enforcement; preliminary investigations; fitness; defensive tactics and combat situations; officer survival; first aid; controlled substances; civil crisis management; arrest, control, and custody techniques; hazardous materials; information systems; Welfare and Institutions (W&I) classifications; Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) laws; unusual occurrences; missing persons; weapons violations; and crimes in progress.
