Basic musical concepts are introduced to assist students in describing and communicating the experience of listening to music. Students explore how music is an activity with social, political, and artistic functions. These analytical tools help students define their own identity through musical and cultural practices. In addition, this course examines how music is used, how meaning is created, and how music helps to define community. This course is intended for all students interested in music and culture.
