Areas of emphasis include learning about types of musical instruments, ensembles, musical styles, relevant history & geography, cultural contexts, functions of music in traditional societies, and cultural retention and syncretism in order to understand how the music and culture of these areas of the world are both related and distinct. This course is intended for any student interested in music and culture of Latin America & North America.
