It explores how technology shapes—and is shaped by—prevailing values, attitudes and institutions. The lectures and readings introduce students to the theories and schools in the history of technology, and how they grapple with technology’s social, cultural, political and environmental implications. Students examine specific technological inventions, innovations and systems from a diverse range of geographic regions, including Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. This course is intended for all students interested in technology and its influence.
