Students will deepen understanding of vocal production, acquire additional tools for gaining mastery of the physical means of voice production, and apply the tools of IPA and diction work begun in previous classes to more complex use in poems and classical literature. Exercises for centering the breath and body, locating and releasing tension, exploring pitch, tone, and range, developing a free and responsive voice. Solidify understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet and use it for working with classical texts and poems, as well as development of at least one foreign and one regional American accent. Field trips may be required.
