Transfers ToCSUDescriptionRehearsal and performance at the collegiate level of music from different cultures. Possible cultures investigated are Indonesia, Persia, South America, China, Japan, and others. Students will play membranophones, aerophones, idiophones, chordophones, and other instruments endemic to respective cultures. Students will investigate and perform microtonal and non-Western tuning systems, and study how West African drum ensembles hocket polyrhythms. Sight-reading ability highly recommended. Audition required. Open to instrumentalists and vocalists. Public performance required. This course is offered as open-entry/open-exit. Formerly MUS 138.
