It examines historical, social, economic, political, and cultural forces in shaping gender identity and gender roles. The goal of the course is to utilize sociological theories to explain gender experience as socially constructed rather than biologically determined. Specifically, the course examines the experience of people of diverse economic, racial, and ethnic origins within a historical and cross-cultural perspective.
