It exposes the students to strategies for producing a cohesive paragraph- length discourse. Used in the course are authentic contemporary readings from a variety of non-fiction genres (reporting, blogs, social media discussions, advertisement, etc.) and videos on a range of contemporary cultural topics. The course is based upon discussions on Russia's geography, current affairs, and geopolitical situation. The highlights of the course are: increased emphasis on development of research skills and ability to summarize information obtained from authentic sources. Further expansion of vocabulary is achieved through exposure to various means of word formation.
