The emphasis of the course is on listening to music. Music of Africa, Asia and Pacific, Caribbean, Latin and North America, Europe, India, and the Middle East will be compared. Concepts of ethnicity, ethnocentrism, racism, ageism, class differences, and gender issues will be addressed. Occasional live performances by guest artists will be presented in class.
