Topics of study include pre-Columbian civilizations such as the Olmecs, Maya, and Aztecs and their cultural contributions through architecture and fine arts, the Spanish conquest, colonial New Spain, race, class, and gender in Mexican society, wars of independence and nation building, foreign invasions by the United States and France, the age of Porfirio Diaz, the Revolution of 1910, the modernization of Mexico, and U.S.-Mexico relations.
