This course examines the underlying messages about race and gender in Hollywood's portrayal of women. The course also compares and contrasts representation of different groups of women, including minority and marginalized, in independent and experimental films. In addition to viewing a variety of film genres, the reading assignments include works of fiction, poetry, and essays from sociology, psychology, and critical theory.
