Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course acquaints students with how computers are used in the home and in business functions. The course emphasizes microcomputers, how they work, how they can be used, and the terminology of the computer world. Microcomputer applications using the Windows environment are presented with hands-on homework assignments. This course does not serve as a prerequisite to computer science programming courses but does serve as a prerequisite and advisory for Computer Information Science application courses. The course is specially designed for students wanting a very general, non- technical, introductory course in computers. For this course, PC computers are used with the Windows Operating System, and applications supported by Windows. Students using a Macintosh computer, or any other device should be aware of differences in software that may impact steps for assignments as outlined or differences with assignment steps when using the textbook required for this course. Mac and Windows OS apply the same principles and fundamentals (ie., file management, etc.,); however, features on a Macintosh computer will work differently than those as instructed using the Windows Operating System. Software and textbook materials for this course are intended to be used with a Windows OS.
